In this sequel to Doon, Mackenna Reid realizes she made a horrible mistake in choosing to follow her dreams of Broadway instead of staying in the enchanted land of Doon. To make everything worse, she’s received her Calling—proof she and Duncan are each other’s one true love—and it’s pure torment, especially when visions of the very alluring Scottish prince appear right before she goes on stage. So when Duncan tells her an ancient curse threatens to overtake Doon and the new queen and Kenna’s best friend, Veronica, needs her to return, Kenna doesn’t have to think twice. With darkness closing in on all sides, Kenna and Vee must battle a world of nightmares in order to protect the kingdom. But it will take the ultimate test of courage for Kenna to salvage her happily ever after.

My Review

Destined For Doon is the second book in the Doon series.  Written by two friends about two best friends.  I loved it!

When I first picked up the book, I was fascinated with the cover.  Gorgeous!  But when I found out it was a book 2, I was worried.  I’ve been reviewing a lot of book 2s lately and while some I can get into….there have been some that I am just lost.  Luckily, this book was so well written that while there were definitely details that I wished I knew more about and storylines I didn’t quite get, I was able to follow the jist of the previous story and really, really enjoyed Destined For Doon.

It’s a love story, a modern fairy tale.  A fantasy story about true love and what you would do for it.  When Kenna’s jilted  true love appears in her dressing room, she can’t deny the pull any longer.  When he tells her that Veronica, her best friend, needs her…Kenna can’t deny that she has to go back to Doon and help fight for the kingdom.  But going back means that she has to face leaving Duncan behind when she came back to New York.

What I loved most about this story were the characters.  The authors created one of a kind characters, who all have their own personalities and issues.  The story is so unique (especially to those of us who haven’t seen the movie the books were inspired by) that you find yourself immersed into Doon and it’s inhabitants completely.  When the book is over, you have to come back to real life.  It took me a few days to want to even start a new book.

I absolutely will be reading Book 1, Doon, and catch up on what I missed.  I look forward to reading more in the series and more stories told by these two writers.
